Tuna Salad Recipes

Seriously, no joke, it is the best tuna salad recipe. It’s the main one my mom, and before that, my grandma has designed for years. It’s a classic recipe with simple, delicious ingredients. Flaky tuna is blended with boiled eggs, crisp celery, onions, sweet pickles, and a creamy mayo dressing. Ideal for sandwiches or creamy tuna melts with some poker chips on the side!

A classic tuna salad recipe is among my go-to easy lunches. Not merely does it lead to a brilliant delicious meal, but it’s filled with protein and keeps me satisfied all night. Also, there’s no complicated methods or ingredients needed. And meal prep’s a cinch. I often make a batch of the salad on Sunday to take pleasure from for meals and a snack on Monday and Tuesday.

With a few basic ingredients probably already in the fridge and pantry, you can make a salad or sandwiches and even scoop it into half an avocado or lettuce wraps for a fancy (and low carbohydrate) dish!


To create this recipe, you’ll need pouches of StarKist Selects E.V.O.O.®, boiled eggs, celery, sweet pickle, onion, and mayo.

  • Tuna: Drain the pouches of tuna. Put the tuna right into a bowl and use a fork to split up the pieces.
  • Mix-ins: Add chopped boiled egg, diced celery, chopped sweet pickles, diced onion and mix well. All of these add great flavor and crunch, you can include within your own favorite including dill pickles, green onion and even diced cucumber. Feel absolve to omit any ingredient you don’t like.
  • Dressing: Gently fold in the mayonnaise. If you’d prefer to reduce the calories and fat, replace a few of the mayonnaise with Greek yogurt. Put in a little salt and pepper to taste and serve cold. If you’ve got fresh herbs readily available, add them in. Also, feel absolve to get creative and stir in a dash of your preferred spice mix.

The best way to serve tuna salad sandwiches is on fluffy, buttery croissants, but I also often enjoy my tuna salad sandwich with whole wheat grains bread or crackers.

How Long Does Tuna Salad Last?

Tuna fish salad is a fantastic make-ahead lunch since it could keep in the fridge for some days. Since it has fish and mayonnaise in it, be cautious never to leave it from the counter for too much time.

Once you’ve made your tuna fish sandwich, put the tuna salad back the fridge within an airtight container to keep it as fresh as possible.

  • Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Meanwhile, butter each side of two slices of bread. Choose white or wheat bread with plenty of toast-able surface area.
  • Lay one little bit of bread in the skillet and top it with a thick layer of your tuna fish salad.
  • Top with a bit of cheese (any favorite variety) another little bit of bread (butter-side up).
  • After about 4-5 minutes so when underneath bread is golden brown, carefully flip the complete tuna melt.
  • Continue cooking before second side is browned. Remove and revel in!

Other Recipe Ideas

This is a normal recipe without an excessive amount of effort. But there are so many methods for getting creative and get this to recipe your own. Here are several ideas for what things to increase your tuna salad to create it really shine:

Apples: Add a little bit of diced crunchy apple. It offers it a pleasant sweetness and fresh crunch that’s absolutely delicious.
Tuna pasta salad: Add cooked pasta, like bowtie or penne to the tuna salad. It adds texture and heartiness.
Capers: Salty, briny capers add a great deal of complex flavor.
No mayo: If you prefer a mayo-free tuna salad recipe, try rendering it with plain or Greek yogurt instead. You can also try rendering it with a straightforward vinaigrette. I take advantage of the juice of 1 large lemon, 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard, 3 tablespoons essential olive oil and 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning.
Avocado: Replace the mayo with a big mashed avocado. I’ve made this recipe from The Healthy Maven many times and it’s delicious!

  • 4 (2.6 ounce) single serve pouches StarKist Selects E.V.O.O.® Yellowfin Tuna, drained
  • 2 boiled eggs, diced
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • 1/2 small onion, diced
  • 2 small sweet pickles, diced
  • 1 1/2 cups mayonnaise, Miracle Whip or Greek yogurt
  • Salt & pepper to taste




  • Add all tuna salad ingredients to a medium to large size mixing bowl. Stir together, gently, until all ingredients are fully combined.

  • Spoon tuna salad onto bread for sandwiches, spread it on crackers or use it as a dip for chips. Enjoy!



Feel free to use as much or as little of the above ingredients. If you like a creamier tuna salad, feel free to add more mayo. If you’re not found of celery, leave it out. This tuna salad recipe is very forgiving. Make it your own!
